The “2024 Taoyuan Youth Design Exhibition and International Design Forum,” organized by Ming Chuan University, centers around the theme of “Designing the Future.” The event is held at the Taoyuan Exhibition Center and features international guests from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Singapore, Japan, and Vietnam, as well as domestic participants from five universities, three high schools, and two emerging design teams. A total of 87 design works are showcased.
The forum also features expert keynote speeches and two focus discussions. International speakers include Celia Mead, Director from London, UK, who shared highlights from the famous “Open House” exhibition in London; Andrew Ananda Voogel, based in Jeju Island, South Korea, who spoke on how design and creativity can address the global issue of plastic pollution; Professor Ken Ueda from the Institute of Design Education at Chiba University, Japan, who presented on the university’s collaborative projects with local communities to promote “Design-based Regional Development in Rural Areas”; Takashi Fuji, Chief Architect at Mitsubishi Estate Design, Japan, who showcased his research on circular architecture; and Danh Tran, Vice President of VDAS in Vietnam, who discussed his groundbreaking work in the design field. Local experts including Director Max, Chairperson Lin Yan-Ying, Director Zeng Ling-Li, Director Li Yi-Yun, and Ming Chuan University Design School alumnus Director Yang Shi-Xin also participated in the discussions.
The “Taoyuan Youth Design Exhibition” involves five universities in Taiwan: Ming Chuan University, Chung Yuan Christian University, Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology, Taipei University of Business, and Vanung University, along with three high schools: Shoushan Senior High School, Yuda Senior High School, and Ching Ying High School. Two emerging design teams, Xing Wai Visual Integration and Ming Chuan University alumni Minzhi Design, also participated in the exhibition, showcasing 87 design works. The event brings together schools, industry leaders, and experts from international sister cities and leading design cities to collaborate on curating the exhibition and forum.
